Xena: Warrior Princess, the one true pairing upon which I measure all other one true pairings. Never confirmed but never denied. Never explicit but never implicit. There was just something so compelling in the heady mix of double entendre, subtle sensuality and overwhelming affection these two had with one another. With these two we were treated to hugs and kisses, the sharing of bed rolls and bath tubs, they weren’t afraid to say ‘I love you’ and were determined to spend eternity together no matter what.

It’s been eleven years since the show finished. I still miss it with an ache that has not been healed by any show since. I still have ideas for fan videos I want to make, and hopefully one day I will. I still make the trip to Los Angeles every year to see Lucy and Renee on stage together, and meet up with all the friends I have made thanks to my involvement in this fandom. And I still count it as my favourite television series.

Did Xena change my life? Did Lucy change my life? Did Renee change my life?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

I’ve been forced to explain homosexuality to my kids (aged 3 and 4) because their uncle is gay. This incredibly difficult and traumatic experience went as follows:

Child: Why does Uncle Bob go everywhere with Pete?
Me: Because they’re in love, just like Mummy and Daddy are.
Child: Oh. Can I have a biscuit?
